My Poor Baby Girl

Last Thursday night, Colette came down with a fever and wasn't acting like herself. Wes and I decided to pack her up and take her to Children's Hospital since we could tell something wasn't right. Boy am I glad we left when we did. Our poor little baby had a 102.9 degree fever!!! We were absolutely terrified. When we got to the ER they did a barrage of tests that included urine (with a catheter), blood work (after three tries, they finally got it to work from a vein in her head!) and a spinal tap. It was awful. Absolutely awful. Wes and I have never been so scared.

Turns out this little beauty had a UTI. Normally something like this wouldn't make doctors so nervous accept for the fact that she is so young. At this age they have practically no immune system and infections can spread rapidly. Because of this, they admitted us right away and there we stayed for three long days and nights. Wes and I didn't sleep or shower for days. Luckily we had two couches/"beds" in the room she was in so we were able to be with her every minute of the day/night. THANKFULLY her infection responded very well to antibiotics and after a full day of on and off fevers, she was feeling much better and was released earlier than originally planned. THANK GOD.

We are so very thankful for our parents during this rough time. They really helped us SO MUCH! Thank you to my mom and Val for coming to the rescue and watching Liv all weekend. She had a great time and didn't really know what was going on (which was such a blessing).  It was so helpful to know that Liv was so well taken care of so we could focus on getting our little one better.

As of now, she's back to her old self! We go back in a couple of weeks to do a test to see if the tubes connecting her kidneys and bladder are functioning properly. There's a slight chance she has what they call reflux where things don't just go down to the bladder from the kidney, they go back up too. We're hoping this is just a fluke. And if it isn't, most kids grow out of it...here's hoping!!! We love our Colettie.

As soon as she was feeling a little better, I had to document with a couple of pics. Can you believe her IV was in her head? We felt horrible for her.

By day two she was in much better spirits. We brought her favorite rocking seat to the hospital and it made her SO HAPPY! She immediately smiled when we put her in it.

Smiles even when she's sick. Oh how we love this girl.
